DND requires support services of one (1) Senior Technician for the Quality Engineering Test Establishment (QETE).

Mandatory requirements

  • Must have a college diploma in photography and/or videography from a recognized* Canadian university, college, or the equivalent as established by a recognized* Canadian academic credentials assessment service, if obtained outside Canada, or military qualification Imagery Technician – Private Rank Qualification (previously known as TQ3).

  • Must have a a minimum of eight (8) years of combined experience within the past ten (10) years performing acquisition and postproduction of imagery with a minimum of two (2) years of experience in each of the following areas:
    • Taking and recording of digital still and video imagery,
    • postproduction using Adobe Creative Suite software, and
    • working with PC and Mac operating systems.
  • Must have has a minimum of one (1) year of combined experience, within the last five (5) years, conducting:
    • technical macrophotography,
    • technical videography,
    • technical High-Speed videography, and
    • postproduction of technical imagery.

General Tasks

  • Perform optical data acquisition technical services including digital photography and standard and high-speed videography using various types of camera systems and accessories.
  • Perform digital acquisition of technical imagery in laboratory and field environments in support of engineering test and evaluation projects and accident investigations.
  • Perform manipulation, including re-construction of composite images of analog and digital radiographs.
  • Perform manipulation of scanning electron microscope, microscopic and macroscopic image files.
  • Perform manipulation, including re-construction of composite image of C-Scan image files.
  • Perform acquisition and postproduction of high-speed video using Photron equipment and software.
  • Perform analysis and interpretation of high-speed video (velocity, time, and duration of event).
  • Produce and extract imagery files metadata for archival, retrieval and investigation purposes.
  • Produce ultraviolet photography from liquid penetrant inspections.
  • Record audio files using various types of microphones in studio and field environments.
  • Create video and audio montages using the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Perform non-destructive editing and enhancement of still, video and audio files using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Perform retrieval and distribution of imagery files in support of engineering projects and investigations.
  • Create photo montages (Photo Merge, HDR, Focus Stacking) with graphic elements for engineering projects and investigations.
  • Create artistic and technical graphic designs using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Record and maintain data in various documents related to imaging tasks and activities such as the QETE Task Management System and Imagery files database.
  • Co-ordinate multi-disciplinary imagery taskings with clients and other government departments.
  • Maintain laboratory imagery equipment such as photo printers, scanners, camera systems, accessories, and computers by performing preventive maintenance and software/firmware updates.
  • Conduct research and testing of new imaging equipment and technologies.
  • Maintain, safeguard, and search local imagery archives. Provide customer service in person or by electronic means, including providing technical advice on imagery capabilities
