Senior Engineer is required to support the 105mm gun fleet in DASPM 3. Previous to FY 15/16, the fleet was supported by the DASPM 3 civilian staff but as the workload for both the M777 fleet and the C3 fleet increased, contractor assistance was required. The situation continues in DASPM 3, currently the workload for gun support has increased as the C3 fleet has major obsolescence issues.

Mandatory requirements

  1. Must have a Bachelor of Engineering degree, in a field offered by the faculty/department of Mechanical Engineering.
  2. Must have a Master of Science (MSc) or Master of Engineering (MEng)
  3. Must have a minimum of thirty-six (36) months of combined experience in the last sixty (60) months working on medium caliber weapons with recoil system or large caliber weapons with recoil system, performing all of the following:
    1. Conduct research into the feasibility, design, operation and performance of mechanisms, components or systems.
    2. Prepare reports and design specifications for components, assemblies or systems.
    3. Manage the design of components, tools, fixtures or equipment.
    4. Analyze dynamics or vibrations of mechanical systems and structures.
    5. Supervise and inspect the installation, modification or commissioning of mechanical systems on site.
    6. Develop maintenance standards, schedules and programs and provide guidance to maintenance personnel.
    7. Investigate mechanical failures or unexpected maintenance problems.
    8. Prepare Statements of Work (SOW), Technical Specifications or Evaluation Criteria for procurement of equipment or maintenance.

Rated requirements

  1. Should have a minimum of twelve (12) months of experience, within the last sixty (60) months, performing all of the following activities:
    1. analyzing stress calculations (static or dynamic) of artillery barrels.
    2. material selection in support of weapon systems sustainment.
  2. Should have a minimum of twenty-four (24) months of combined experience within the last sixty (60) months working with a SAP* Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, performing all of the following:
    1. using current and historical data to create main assemblies wear reports.
    2. Predicting the serviceability status of the systems.
    3. Make decisions on configuration design changes.
    4. Control precise configuration management of systems, ensuring proper serial numbers are with their proper equipment number.
  3. Should have a minimum of twenty-four (24) months of experience within the last sixty (60) months working with Computer Aided Design* software, performing all of the following:
    1. Designing prototype modifications to then manufacture them through Additive Manufacturing.
    2. Visualise 3D simulations.
    3. View equipment drawings.

General tasks

  1. Develop requirements for system design and development, test and evaluation, production, operation, and support.
  2. Evaluate system design alternatives against meaningful, quantifiable criteria that relate to all of the operational requirements, including, but not limited to performance factors, effectiveness factors, reliability and maintainability characteristics, human factors and safety factors, supportability characteristics, and life-cycle cost.
  3. Analyze the reports from a series of live mobility and firing tests and making recommendations for howitzer system modifications in order to optimize the weapon system’s performance, reliability and maintainability.
  4. Analyze equipment failures and finding solutions to prevent them from re-occurring, in support of artillery fleets.
  5. Prepare technical specifications for the procurement of artillery systems and equipment.
  6. Develop and analyze maintenance strategies, plans and support requirements.
  7. Perform Configuration Management and Control, including Configuration Verification and Audits using Defence Resource Management Information System (DRMIS).
