    a. static modeling;
    b. dynamic modeling; and
    c. non-linear modeling.
  • Minimum of two years of experience within the past five years using Finite Element Methods (FEM) in high strain rate modeling
  • Minimum of five years of combined experience within the last eight (8) years in the following fields:
    a. solid mechanics
    b. engineering materials
  • Minimum of five years of combined experience within the last eight (8) years in the design verification of mechanical systems and components
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last five (5) years in utilizing ANSYS software to conduct finite element analyses.

General Tasks

  • Conduct structural load and strength substantiation analysis of mechanical components/assemblies of moderate to high complexity using Finite Element Method (FEM)
  • Perform static and dynamic/event stress analyses of metallic and composite components/assemblies
  • Correlate FEA of mechanical components/assemblies with field data and provide feedback to subject matter experts within QETE working on failure investigation or other clients within CAF/DND
  • Perform validation of FEA models
  • Draft Statements of Requirements and Statements of Work for FEA support by organizations external to DND
  • Review stress analysis and FEA models for CAF/DND
  • Assess whether design solutions meet stress performance specifications, applicable regulations, and industry best practices
  • Conduct problem solving, including recommendation of new or modification of existing designs
  • Perform sensitivity studies and hot spot analysis
  • Provide technical guidance for metallic and composite structure problem resolution.
  • Interpret analysis results based on modeling technique, material fatigue characteristics, and test results
  • Prepare technical reports of their Work for Technical Authority, clients or QETE management
  • Apply sound project management practices on the Work including but not limited to, assigning priorities, reviewing status, providing updates and recommending courses of action based on cost-benefit analyses
  • Maintain or improve the quality and level of service of the failure analysis and design review team, including but not limited to research and evaluate new techniques and methodologies in the field, and recommend and implement industry best practices
  • Maintain QETE FEA models and related files on the QETE Mechanical Systems network
  • Prepare procurement documents in accordance with DND acquisition policies and guidelines for software license renewals and maintenance packages
