Systems Administrator

The Department of National Defence (DND) requires the services of a Systems Administrator to ensure the overall maintenance, life cycling, consistency, and alignment of a DND information systems network.

Mandatory requirements

• minimum of 10 years of experience in performing a minimum of 80% of the Tasks below. Part of this experience must be from within the previous 36 months;

Optional requirements

• minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in installing, monitoring, upgrading and maintenance of operating systems;
• minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in installing, monitoring, upgrading and maintenance of hardware and software;
• minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience working with Business Analysts, Project Managers, Developers, and clients/stakeholders to maintain and improve software performance ;
• minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in troubleshooting and responding to user problems;
• minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience ensuring timely and reliable system administration procedures, such as backup and/or recovery;
• minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience analyzing system performance and recommending improvements.

General tasks

• Must perform advanced configuration support to complex mesh network topology-based networks, maintaining and supporting the integrity of the network environment and various network systems. These tasks include the following:
  • Install, monitor, upgrade and maintain operating systems;
  • Install, monitor, upgrade and maintain hardware and software;
  • Work with business analysts, project managers, developers, and clients/stakeholders to maintain and improve software performance;
  • Apply problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and resolve technical problems;
  • Ensure timely and reliable system administration procedures, such as backup and/or recovery; and
  • Analyze system performance and recommend improvements
