Shared Services Canada (SSC) has a requirement for a Storage Systems Administrator to work in SSC Storage and Backup Operations group (SBAFS). The contractor may work on various platforms or systems at the same time and must contribute to various projects at the same time.
Mandatory requirements
- 10+ years of experience with enterprise storage setup, storage virtualization, Storage Analytics, Trend Analysis, Capacity Planning and system administration, in a large scale Enterprise IT environment.
- 10+ years of experience working with at least 3 of these operating systems: Aix, Solaris, Linux, Unix, Windows, VMWARE, Mainframe
- 10+ years of experience using at least one of File Sharing Appliances technology such as HNAS, EMC Isilon/Powerstore and EMC Unity and/or Netapp, Windows File Server. A combination of experience on different products will be accepted
- 10+ years of experience using at least one of the following for data protection Netbackup, TSM, Commvault, Networker, PowerProtect Data Manager. A combination of experience on different products will be accepted. (Must be a mixture of day to day operations as well as set-up and lifecycle of software and hardware.)
- 10+ years of experience in creating various types of documentation and mentoring/training staff. (example documentation: Health Status Reports, Build Books, Maintenance Procedures, Defining Specifications and Standards, Solution Design Documentation, IT Process Documentation, Support Procedures, Backup and Restore Procedures)
- A valid driver’s permit
Optional requirements
- Experience in performing IT refresh activities of storage or file sharing appliances with over 500TB of data
- Experience working in at least three (3) of the environments listed below: Aix, Solaris, Linux, Unix, Windows, VMWARE, Mainframe
- Experience using, but not limited to, EMC Unisphere for VNX, VMAX as well as File Sharing Appliances using, but not limited to, HNAS, EMC Isilon and EMC Unity
- Experience doing Asynchronous and Synchronous Data Replication with such tools as Symmetrix Remote Data Facility (SRDF), True Copy (TC), Hitachi Online Remote Copy Manager (HORCM) , Hitachi Universal Replicator (HUR), IBM Global Mirror, IBM Metro Mirror and IBM FlashCopy
General tasks
- Creation of reference documentation for IT equipment, existing or deployed by the consultant (Visio Drawings explaining physical or logical topologies of storage, backup and file solutions; Excel Workbooks which record number of backup clients, front-end backup size, agent type, software version and correlate them to a specific network zone; Style Guides for Technical Advisors when they create their own build books or run books, etc.)
- Assist support analyst in the granular steps of collecting information and applying changes to configurations in Commvault, SAN NAV, Ops Center, On-Command etc..
- Constant knowledge transfer and shadowing with Technical Advisors and Support Analysts so that they become comfortable with repeatability of the tasks being performed
- Meet with project coordinators, technical staff and senior advisor
- Provide timely updates and weekly progress reports ahead of project meetings
- Assist the technical advisor and support analyst with solution design and execution of the operational project by interpreting the technical standard to the particular environment (with sign-off from Senior Advisor and Manager)
- Identify risks, challenges to project completion to the manager and senior advisor
- Deploy, configure and migrate to solutions based on high-level instruction
- Assist the senior advisor with analysis of reports provided by the operations team
- Collect information in support of reports and dashboards (audience: director)
- Create CRQs and tasks in Onyx Change Management software, in relation to a project
- Provide documentation such as test plan, backout plan
- Coordinate scheduling of tasks with change management or other service lines as needed
