The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) requires the services of experts to provide advice, expertise and support in geospatial, Alteryx, data science, data and business architecture, Tableau, market intelligence, project management and data storytelling-related activities that will support the CRTC’s efforts to modernize the data collection, processing, visualizing, publishing and communication processes related to the Communications Market Reports.

Mandatory requirements

  • Education in Business, Arts, Economics;
  • Professional certification;
  • Experience in four (4) projects for Canadian Federal or Provincial Governments or large corporations:
    • Developing presentations and materials for a variety of audiences using clear, communicative and professional language;
    • Developing data visualizations using Tableau that use data storytelling elements to concisely communicate key trends and metrics;
    • Designing novel products and reports for clients in the broadcasting, telecommunications and/or media industries; and
    • Developing products and reports that conform to WCAG 2.0 standards (a minimum of Level AA). 

General tasks

  1. Collaborating with the CMR team in gathering data and conducting analysis.
  2. Participating in industry-wide offerings to continually expand functional expertise and knowledge; assist in summarizing findings for key partners.
  3. Conducting large-scale and ad hoc compensation analyses and assisting with projects as needed.
  4. Pulling through the storytelling of the data findings in support of key business decisions.
  5. Performing data analysis using appropriate scripting languages (e.g. Python, R), Tableau and Excel.
  6. Working on several data projects, extracting insights in the context of market trends, behavioural analysis, population forecasting, segmentation and profiling.
  7. Writing up findings in short and long reports including visually appealing graphs and deep insights based on analysis, answering the “why” behind the “what”.
  8. Helping shape the research agenda and asking developers and data scientists the right questions.
  9. Interacting with clients to provide insightful answers to tough data problems, and to support them in custom data insights projects.
  10. Helping clients identify key business questions and translate them into research questions and projects.
  11. Supporting the rest of the analyst team in their data and research requests as needed.
  12. Design and execute a project related to data storytelling based including the development of at least one data story utilizing data available via CMR to help translate insight into action for data consumers.
