A Public Sector client is seeking a WEB MULTI-MEDIA CONTENT CONSULTANT to conduct moderated usability testing of its web presence to improve user task success.
Mandatory requirements
- Education requirements – Academic Certification (Degree, etc.) from a recognized Canadian university, college or high school, or the equivalent.
- Bilingualism (English and French) – Documentation will be provided to the Contractor in both English and French. Approximately 30% of the testing will be conducted in French with French-speaking participants.
- Experience planning, facilitating, and implementing at least 5 moderated web usability task testing projects in the last 5 years for public-facing websites. Each project must be of at least 3 months duration. Moderated web usability task testing project: A project where a facilitator develops a minimum of 8 web task scenarios to be completed by users and then recruits a minimum of 10 participants from a specific target audience to take part in a usability test. The facilitator then runs the test by asking the participants to complete the established task scenarios starting from a specific webpage. The facilitator observes the participants and records their screen to evaluate how easily and efficiently they can complete the task scenarios.
- Experience facilitating at least 5 moderated web usability task testing projects in English and at least 5 moderated web usability task testing projects in French in the last 5 years. The English and French projects can be the same if there were both English and French participants.
- 3+ years’ experience in the last 5 years analyzing usability testing results and making recommendations on how to improve usability on public facing websites.
- 3+ years’ experience in the last 5 years creating reports and presentations that included the results of usability testing and the recommendations on how to improve usability based on the results of the testing.
Optional requirements
- Experience planning, facilitating, and implementing more than 5 moderated web usability task testing projects in the last 5 years for public-facing websites.
- Experience in the last 5 years making recommendations to Government of Canada Departments or Agencies on the usability of their webpages based on the Canada.ca Design System and the Canada.ca Content Style Guide.
General tasks
- Moderated usability testing.
- 4 usability tests per year. These tests will be spread out over the course of the year as required by the TA. The testing will be one-on-one moderated usability testing with participants from a specific target audience identified by the TA. The facilitator will ask each participant to complete predetermined task scenarios for the specific test. The facilitator will observe the participants and record their screen to evaluate how easily and efficiently they can complete the task scenarios.
- For each usability test, the Contractor must:
- attend a kick-off meeting with the Web Strategy team and the web content owners to confirm the approach, target audience, task scenarios to be tested, starting webpage for each scenario, recruitment of participants and timeline for the testing;
- develop the testing materials, including the participant instructions, invitation emails, recording participant’s screen and audio consent forms, finalized task scenarios, and facilitator’s guide;
- recruit participants for the tests, using standard business best practices, from the target audience agreed on at the kick-off meeting.
- Each usability test must have the following mix of participants: 1 – minimum of 12 participants; 2 – minimum of 50% of participants using mobile devices; 3 – participants from a range of locations across Canada; and 4 – ratio of 70% English-speaking participants and 30% French-speaking participants;
- schedule tests with participants, manage cancellations and find replacements as required;
- facilitate the moderated usability testing with the participants remotely;
- obtain each participant’s consent to record their screen and audio for all testing sessions and upload videos to a location that can be accessed by team employees for at least 12 months following the test;
- provide PowerPoint presentations (1 (one) PowerPoint presentation per usability test).
